Where Corner Kids are Making a Difference! Isa 54:17
With the help of our friendly Mascot,
FUZZBOW
He is a visual representation of child abuse. His eyes are swollen from being hit, some teeth are missing and lips are swollen from being hit in his mouth and his colors represents bruises trying to heal. He was created by concerned parents in the community. Seamtress, Mrs. Queen Ester. For more on child abuse prevention, click on Fuzzbow on abuse page.
From taking a group of young people hanging out on the corners to now serving thousands with no where to put them is quite challenging for the founder, Delece Williams.
In 1995, she began creating a safe haven for at-risk youth in her apartment. Directly over a four cornered war-zone where each corner is claimed to be a different gang turf. And even now it's more difficult for youth as they have to take public transportation back and forth to school, go shopping or just simply walking to and from their destination.
One of the projects she put together for finding solutions to gang violence was a local children talk show (the Kidz Korna Tv Show) of which Can Tv, A Community Public Access Channel currently shows the re-runs in Chicago (for more information on the show, click on the Kidz Korna Tv Show page).
As a result, overwhelmingly many youth would call in secretly about being abused in their homes and would want answers as to solving
the issues of violence in one form or another.
To the rescue! Kidz Korna Youth Organization was formed for the cause. From Victims to Victors! Over 75% of our youth group where once abused, neglected or victims of violence themselves are now using their efforts to fight back through programs and community projects around the City of Chicago, when they need help themselves.

The Wall of Courage
Project
a performance piece that brings public
awareness to the silent cries of abuse.
Starting in the month of April for National
Child Abuse Prevention Month, the youth
group performs first downtown at the
Daley Center, kicking off year round
campaigning as a abuse and violence
prevention outcry. Other places where
they gather are festivals, churches and
other community forums to spread the
word.
Most Recently, the youth group made history at South Minster
Presbyterian Church in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King. They
where invited out to perform the Wall of Courage project and it was
then announced that they would now include anti-violence initiatives in their outreach missions work for better communities.
COMMUNITY IMPACT:
Making a Difference
- Thousands of youth and families are impacted as
Can-Television voluntarily plays our Tv show re-runs and has been for over a
decade. Thus allowing their market to easily except the most important
part of Kidz Korna's mission, to stop the silent cries of child abuse and
violence. And because of this, through out the city of Chicago, our youth group has been welcomed to spread the message to all who would listen.
We have a vast wait list of parents wanting education in the area of child abuse prevention, and young people wanting help to change the high statistics of their peers dying from senseless violence.
Our community events has given us hands on solutions for making a difference in various communities as well, and they are as follows:
Jan. - MLK Day of Service July - Safe Haven Summer Program
Feb. - K.KO Promotions Aug. - Back to School Event
Mar. - Stand against Violence/Abuse Sep. - Let the Kids Live Campaign
April - Child Abuse Prevention Kick-Off Oct. - After-School workshops
May - CUACA Nov.- K.KO Promotions
June - Safe Haven Summer Program Dec. - Miracle on 79th Street Toy Event
Engaging young people - Most teens view youth programming with cyncism and doubt when it comes to getting the help they need. Changing the mind-set of a victimized young person can be a difficult thing to do when they don't have much hope concerning the issues they are dealing with. In order to show change, we must be the change they need to see.
Job creation is on the forefront of our focus for community youth. We know that giving them avenues for creating a better future minimizes their possibilities of being a victim to senseless violence. Through partnerships, we have been able to develop positions for young people that encourages career opportunities.
